Residential Service

Homes That Build Independence

Cartref Homes’ Residential Services offer nurturing, structured environments where individuals with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and other complex requirements can flourish.

  • Cartref House, our first home opened in 1997, provides high-specification, six-bed accommodation in a town-centre location — designed for transitional support into independent living.
  • Ulcomb House, a five-bedroom home, caters to those needing intensive skills teaching and a higher level of staff support.
  • Bridge House, home to five service users, fosters autonomous living through involvement in routine tasks — like food shopping, appointment management, and community activities — while encouraging participation in care planning.

Each home is built around person-centred care, enabling residents to grow in confidence, autonomy, and social integration—supported by staff who value dignity, choice, and long-term progression.

Client’s Story

Client’s Story Spotlight: Sarah’s Journey

Sarah joined Cartref Homes after leaving her job in retail, looking for a role where she could truly make a difference. With no formal experience in care, she was supported through a comprehensive induction program and paired with an experienced mentor.

Over time, Sarah discovered a passion for helping others achieve their goals—whether that meant building daily routines, managing anxieties, or simply being a consistent, reassuring presence.

Today, she’s not only grown in confidence but is also on a clear career development path, with aspirations to move into team leadership. Sarah’s journey is just one example of how Cartref invests in its people and nurtures talent from within.

From day one, the team welcomed me, trained me, and gave me the confidence to grow. I started as a support worker, and now I’m working towards a Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification, with the full backing of my manager. Seeing the small wins—helping someone cook their first meal on their own are the best part of my job.
